Septic systems are a critical piece of infrastructure that treats the wastewater coming off individual properties, so it is less hazardous to human health and the environment. It is critical that they are functioning, but because they are buried in the yard it is easy for them to silently fail and go unnoticed. Blue Water Baltimore and Clean Water Action released a new report on Wednesday calling on the Department of Public Works (DPW) to expand and improve Baltimore City’s two sewage backup assistance programs: the Expedited Reimbursement Program and the Sewage Onsite Support program.
