Is your vote worth it? Flip it!

This election season, we’ve all been hearing plenty about partisan races. Don’t forget about the important choices on the other side of your ballot!

If you decide to vote straight ticket, get your I Voted sticker, and head out of your polling station, you’ll be missing some of the most important choices you can make. Fill out your entire ballot and let your friends and family know to do the same.

Non-Partisan

Clean Water Action is proud to endorse Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh and Justice Noah Hood for re-election to Michigan’s Supreme Court.

We often think of environmental protections as being won through legislation passed or administrative policy set in Lansing. Our third branch of government is just as critical, for good and for bad. We can’t vote on the US Supreme Court justices, but we can decide who makes these decisions in Michigan.

This year, we saw how impactful that can be when the MI Supreme Court ruled that the Michigan Public Service Commission hadn’t properly considered environmental harms when they approved permits for the proposed Line 5 oil tunnel – as required by law.

The Court is often our last line of defense. Justices Cavanagh and Hood have proven their integrity in upholding Michigan’s law and dedication to fairness.

Proposals

Vote NO on Proposal 1

Proposal 1 would rewrite Michigan’s entire state constitution. By law, every 16 years voters can decide whether to revisit the constitution. If passed, 148 delegates would be selected to draft new amendments or a new constitution – without oversight from Michigan voters.

The first line of the Michigan Constitution is “All political power is inherent in the people”. Passing Proposal 1 would take that power away from us.

Protect our constitution, the hard fought and won amendments (including no-reason absentee voting, voter registration through election day, and non-partisan redistricting), and our ability as Michiganders to even pass ballot initiatives in the first place.

Vote NO on 1 – and share the word.

Vote YES on Proposal 2

We hope you’ve heard about Michiganders for Money Out of Politics already! Proposal 2 would ban political donations from regulated utilities and big government contractors. Prop 2 would also require disclosure on political advertising, so we know who is trying to buy our votes. Conflict of interest corporate cash has helped data centers while hindering progress on renewable energy – it's time we take our state back.

Vote YES on 2 – and join the movement at MopUpMichigan.org/Volunteer

Candidate Endorsements

A Clean Water Action endorsement isn’t given – it's earned. We put our name behind and time and miles on the ground to support candidates with solid track records and understanding of environmental policy. Candidates who not only agree with us on the most critical issues to the health of our water and our communities, but who share their priorities and plans with us in writing. The problems facing our water don’t stop on election day, and neither does our work.

With environmental protections being attacked to a degree we’ve never seen, it’s more important than ever that we have strong representation in Washington DC to not only protect our Great Lakes state, but to lead us to a healthier and sustainable future.

Clean Water Action endorses Dr. Abdul El Sayed for US Senate.

If protecting clean water, creating healthy communities, and holding polluters accountable is important to you – and we certainly hope it is! - we urge you to cast your vote for Abdul. Click here to read the reasoning behind our endorsement, including an extensive list of the reasons why we are fully confident that Abdul El Sayed is the right choice for Michigan.

For the US House of Representatives, Clean Water Action endorses Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (District 6), William Lawrence (District 7), Congresswoman Rashida Talib (District 12), and Donavan McKinney (District 13).
