2023 MD Legislative Session Wrap Up
Every year, Maryland's General Assembly meets for just 90 days at the beginning of the year. It was a busy, hectic legislative session, and it just ended on Monday! We've been hard at work lobbying and organizing for clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. Here's how our top priorities fared!
Testimony on MD HB161, the Waste Disposal Authority Sunset Act
Today Clean Water Action testified on HB161, the Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority Sunset Act. This important bill sets up a review by the state Department of Legislative Services to consider whether or how this quasi-state agency, created by the state in 1980 to plan and finance trash incinerators, should continue.
Our Clean Water Priorities in the 2023 MD Legislative Session
Maryland's 2023 legislative session has begun! For 90 days stretching until April 10, advocates across Maryland will be busily at work passing legislation through the House and Senate and to the desk of our new Governor Moore. Here are the top bills that we'll be prioritizing at Clean Water Action and how you can take action - we can't do it without you!
2022 Maryland Endorsements
Clean Water Action has endorsed candidates in legislative races before the primary this year. More endorsements will be rolled for the general election. For the primary, Clean Water Actions endorsed candidates who have championed our priority issues as sponsors, in committee, or on the Floor.
For the Senate, Clean Water Action decided to only endorse senators who championed our priority issues who also voted to remove trash incinerator subsidies when given the opportunity on the Senate Floor in 2021. In previous years, a wide majority of senators voted to remove subsidies for burning trash
