REI Members to REI: Take Leadership on PFAS!
REI has tarnished its reputation as a company committed to sustainability by continuing to sell clothing, including for children, that contains PFAS. As an REI member, I am disheartened to see that not only do many REI products contain PFAS, but REI is failing to make meaningful progress to phase them out. REI recently earned an “F” grade for its PFAS phase-out policies. PFAS are a broad class of toxic chemicals that scientists have tied to a wide range of health and environmental harms. Groundwater Sustainability Assessments in California
California passed the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) almost a decade ago as a step to bring the states’ depleted groundwater aquifers to sustainability. With increased droughts, the implementation of SGMA and protection of vulnerable communities dependent on small water systems and domestic wells is urgent. Over the last 2 years, Clean Water Action has reviewed and analyzed over 95 groundwater sustainability plans, in every groundwater basin covered by SGMA, closely evaluating the steps local agencies are taking to protect vulnerable communities.
Mac Glackin
Originally from the East Coast, Mac finished an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and Politics at the University of San Francisco. Mac's academic career focused on a balance between the sciences and the humanities. Pairing studies of ecology, GIS mapping, and environmental data analysis with community garden outreach, Environmental Justice, and decolonial lenses on human rights and stewardship. A Bay Area resident, Mac applies these lessons to help in Clean Water Action's mission in Oakland, CA.
