Talking Lead Service Lines in Malden, Massachusetts
Lead exposure is a problem that America has been facing for decades. The EPA estimates that lead in drinking water can account for 20% of a person's exposure to lead ( Lead and Drinking Water). Currently, there are lead service lines in up to ten million homes across the country. Replacing them comes at a high cost. Each lead service line is owned by both the municipality in which the line resides and the resident’s house the line directly serves.
Recently, I had the chance to talk to members in Malden, MA where 25% of households have lead service lines. Since half of the line is owned by the
Clean Water Action: Texas just made it harder to vote -- the US Senate must respond by protecting voting rights.
"Instead of focusing on real problems like fixing the electrical grid that failed so miserably during last winter's storm, the Governor and his allies are making it harder for people to vote."

Clean Water Action is a part of the Waste Free Philly Coalition which developed a five-point agenda to help Philadelphia transform into a city where neighborhoods are litter-free, trash and recycling are properly collected, dumping is a thing of the past, and a low-waste circular economy can thrive.
With a new mayor and city council being elected in 2023 in Philadelphia, the coalition is working to make these issues a priority for our next generation of leadership in Philadelphia.

Drought response should include proactive long-term solutions for vulnerable communities, helping to address not only this drought but long-term water quality and water supply challenges.
