Austin, TX -- Governor Abbott today signed SB 1, a bill that dramatically limits access to the ballot box throughout Texas.

Clean Water Action State Director, David Foster, released the following statement:

“Instead of focusing on real problems like fixing the electrical grid that failed so miserably during last winter's storm, the Governor and his allies are making it harder for people to vote. With SB 1, Abbott and the Republicans in the legislature have targeted people of color in densely populated places like Harris County. Voters turned out in record numbers last November thanks to 24-hour and drive-through early voting, which are now banned by SB 1. We can’t allow this to be the last word on elections in the state -- it's up to the US Senate to protect voting rights in Texas and all across the nation, by passing the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which have already passed the US House.”
