Next week on Wednesday, the Baltimore City Council will be holding a public hearing on sewer backups into homes and the City's existing programs for helping households that have sewer backups. Release: New Report Calls for Expansion of Baltimore City's Sewage Backup Assistance Programs
Blue Water Baltimore and Clean Water Action released a new report on Wednesday calling on the Department of Public Works (DPW) to expand and improve Baltimore City’s two sewage backup assistance programs: the Expedited Reimbursement Program and the Sewage Onsite Support program.
Keeping Antibiotics Effective - An Update and Call to Action
Last year, we worked with the Keep Antibiotics Working Coalition to mobilize to phase out the practice of feeding healthy animals antibiotics. In the United States, approximately 70% of antibiotics human use are sold for use on animals. These drugs are often fed to animals that aren't sick in order to prevent disease. This routine use of antibiotics contributes to the breeding and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. These bacteria can then travel off the farm and into our communities.
Ultimately, the General Assembly passed the Keep Antibiotics Effective Act, which passed without Governor

This report provides background information about the issue of sewage backups in Baltimore City and the existing assistance programs, summarizes and analyzes DPW’s feasibility study, and makes recommendations for improving and expanding the support systems for residents facing this environmental hazard.
