A few weeks ago, the Public Service Commission declared that the two offshore wind companies vying for Offshore wind Renewable Energy Credits could move forward with their plans to construct the nation's first utility-scale offshore wind farms off the coast of Ocean City - provided they met certain requirements designed to make sure that these projects benefit Marylanders as much as possible. Emily, Caitlin from the Potomac Conservancy, and I spent last weekend in downtown Frederick at the Green Neighbor Festival. This two-day gathering for environmentalists, gardeners, advocates, and families was planned by Hood College’s Center for Coastal and Watershed Studies (CCWS) and the Friends of Baker Park to promote environmental sustainability and “green” practices to protect land, water, and energy resources. Between celebrity deaths and the election of Donald Trump, it definitely had some real black strikes against it. The 98th Michigan Legislature has passed a landmark package of bills expanding renewable energy, protecting ratepayers and the Great Lakes. Bipartisan support increased the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) from 10% by 2015 to 15% by 2022, with an interim mandate of 12.5% by 2019!
