Getting a Leg Up on Getting the Lead Out
Photo: Lead-lined iron water pipe and lead pipe removed from the Quincy, MA water system A great new tool was released recently to help communities speed up replacing their remaining Lead Service Lines (LSLs), which deliver drinking water to millions of homes across the U.S. The Lead Service Line Replacement Collaborative is working to accelerate full lead service line replacement by engaging community stakeholders in collaborative processes in this critical undertaking. The Collaborative’s work is based on the recognition that we need to get lead out of contact with drinking water to prevent the risk of exposure to lead at the tap.
2017 Legislative Preview
In Maryland, the General Assembly meets every year for ninety days, from January to April. During this time, the State’s legislators introduce legislation on a variety of issues and must work together to pass a budget for the year ahead. Parenting in a Toxic World
There’s no getting around it: this world can be a scary place, and as parents and caregivers, we do whatever we can to shield our children from harm. From proper sleeping positions in infancy to talking about safe sex, we are always striving to control for and eliminate threats to our kids’ health and well-being. Some threats are harder to identify, though, and this is the problem that parents and caregivers face as we attempt to navigate a sea of toxic consumer products and choose which ones are safest for our kids. This week we gather with family and friends to give thanks and reflect on the past year. Though the past few weeks have been tough, as I think about 2016 and look forward to 2017, I am full of gratitude for Clean Water Action members.
