Victory: Montgomery County cancels the M83 highway!
After decades of diligent advocacy, community members in Montgomery County have finally deleted a proposed new highway from the County’s Master Plan of Highways and Transitways! The proposed highway in question was the M-83, the Mid-County Highway Extended, which was a six-mile, planned-but-unbuilt, six-lane highway with a $1.37 billion price tag. During the last week of September, Healing Our Waters – Great Lakes Coalition brought together a diverse group of more than 400 people from throughout the Great Lakes region to attend the Great Lakes Restoration Conference in Chicago. The U.S. House of Representatives is advancing dangerous legislation: the “PERMIT Act” (H.R. 3898), a package of over 15 anti-clean water bills. This legislation would gut the Clean Water Act and make it far easier for polluters to contaminate our rivers, lakes, wetlands, and sources of drinking water.
