The Magna Carta of Environmental Laws is Under Attack
They call it the Magna Carta of environmental laws; the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is the foundation for landmark health and environmental protections like the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act. NEPA is what gives any person or community group a voice on projects that can impact our health and well-being. It's what requires governments and developers to slow down and consider public concerns.

Clean Water Action's ReThink Disposable program, which prevents waste before it starts by working with local businesses to minimize single use disposable packaging, is very excited to participate! Fight for Michigan's Lakes with the Clean Water Act!
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. This landmark law is still protecting Michigan residents’ health and preserving our beautiful state after all of these years and will for generations to come – as long as we continue to stand up and fight for it. While, the Act has made remarkable strides in improving water quality, removing toxics and protecting our Great Lakes and forests, there is work to be done. ReThink Disposable - The Problem
Unless we prevent packaging at the source it will continue to flow down the watershed to the ocean, requiring constant and costly management and removal, and will continue to disproportionately impact environmental justice communities near waste facilities. Packaging prevention in food service businesses and institutional dining operations is a win-win by saving them thousands of dollars and preventing large amounts of waste and litter prone packaging.
