Our Earth Month celebration continues. It all started back 1970, when the first Earth Day mobilized millions of people nationwide in April to stop pollution and bring cleaner air and water. We’ve made huge progress since then. Clean Water Action – and members like you – have helped make things a whole lot better for our water and our health. Now, that progress is threatened.
You’ve probably seen our recent calls to action about the latest in a serious of looming threats. The risk of potentially devastating cuts (65% or more!) to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) budget is particularly alarming. Crippling EPA cuts would bring more air and water pollution, more environmental disasters, less environmental enforcement, and loss of urgently needed cleanup funding for states and communities. Ultimately, everyone’s health could suffer, especially children and the most vulnerable among us.
“The greatest threat to the planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
– Robert Swan, Polar Explorer
For Earth Month this year, Clean Water Action is focusing on four specific wishes for our planet.
Our Wishes for Mother Earth:
PROTECT Clean Air and Water — Support stronger (not weaker!) protections for our water and our health. Keep environmental and health laws strong and effective.
PREVENT Pollution and Environmental Disasters — Stop pollution before it can start.
SUPPORT Healthy Children and Communities — Invest to protect the most vulnerable among us.
PROMOTE a Clean Water Future for All — Advance climate solutions that protect clean water and create good jobs.
ELIMINATE Toxins — Get harmful toxics out of everyday consumer and household products.
STOP Single-use Throwaways — Encourage people and businesses to cut out single-use plastic items that are trashing our planet (and our water).
Let's make it happen, together.
