Our Clean Water Priorities for the 2023 Texas Legislative Session
For roughly five months in odd-numbered years, elected officials and advocates across Texas are busy at work passing legislation through the House and Senate and to the Governor's desk. Here are the top efforts and issues that Clean Water Action is prioritizing during the current Texas legislative session that ends on May 29th - and how you can take action.
New policy will safeguard Colorado waters from toxic PFAS
On July 14th we won a huge victory when the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission unanimously approved a policy that provides Colorado a clear path forward to address PFAS contamination in surface and ground waters. Despite the serious health impacts from PFAS, there are no federal regulations to control these chemicals in surface water or drinking water, so states around the country have been adopting their own regulations and policies to protect residents.
Colorado Test Results Reveal Contaminated Drinking Water
“CDPHE’s water testing results highlight the need for the state to do more to protect our communities from PFAS,” said Jennifer Peters, Water Programs Director at Clean Water Action. “Polluters should not be allowed to dump these chemicals into our water, and I urge the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission to pass a strong narrative water policy to rein in discharges of PFAS into Colorado waters.”

Becky Smith
Becky has worked with Clean Water Action since 2001. Recent projects include assembling a multi-sector network in Massachusetts to support innovative and alternative approaches to integrated water and energy resource management to protect both water and human ecosystems. Her work at the local, state, and federal level includes giving presentations on sustainable options for next generations of infrastructure; support for initiatives such as the Clean Water Restoration Act; and pursuing Clean Water Act protections for waters here in Massachusetts.
