MA Senate Releases Energy Infographics and Also Passes Great Legislation
On Thursday, June 30, the Massachusetts Senate released a bunch of really cool infographics and also voted unanimously to pass S2372, omnibus energy legislation that significantly increases our state’s use of clean power. The Senate’s legislation will now be “conferenced” with an earlier, narrowly tailored House energy bill, and legislative leaders from each chamber must come to compromise by the end of July (Clean Water was quoted in Mass Live and the Worcester Business Journal, and also check out a synopsis of the bill and process from here on by reporter Jon Chesto).

Infographic on Massachusetts Gas Leaks
This just in from the infographic corner––our Clean Energy Intern, Victoria, has put together an awesome visual to share the impact of gas leaks on Massachusetts. Tori recently blogged about our campaign to fix gas leaks, a big team effort we're proud to join Mothers Out Front, Community Labor United, HEET, Mass Sierra Club, Boston Climate Action Network, Neighbor to Neighbor, researchers from Boston University, several unions and many other partners in working on.

Opposition to Toxic Polystyrene Gaining Traction
Many of us have been in the awkward situation of attending a family picnic or community event where we line up for food and discover the only choice for dishware is polystyrene (ex. Styrofoam and similar products). This is the moment where I tend to sigh and assess my options. I can either skip eating, ask if there is another option and use this as a teaching moment, or pile food on my polystyrene plate adding to my daily intake of carcinogens. MA Senate Releases Comprehensive Energy Bill
Massachusetts, it's time to take action on climate change!
The Massachusetts Senate has released its comprehensive energy legislation, which will be debated on Thursday, 6/30. It includes two of Clean Water Action's priorities, commitments for 2000 megawatts of offshore wind and doubling the rate of increase of the Renewable Portfolio Standard - the amount of clean energy utilities are requires to buy. The Senate legislation is a strong bill and members of the public can read S2372 at the link or view the summary here.
