Report: The Need to Enforce Waste Bans in Massachusetts
Every year in Massachusetts more than 40% of the waste in landfills, incinerators, or as litter (more than 2 million tons) is composed of materials that were banned from disposal long ago by Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection regulations. This report covers the scope of the problem and provides recommendations to eliminate this substantial portion of the waste stream.
Nichole Keway Biber
Dr. Nichole Keway Biber is a tribal citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (Waganakising Odawa), and is part of the Turtle Clan (Mishiike Dodem). Her family currently resides in East Lansing, where she earned her PhD in English from MSU. Nichole began working for Clean Water Action as the Mid-Michigan Campaign Organizer in September of 2023, in a continuation of her efforts as a Water Protector to Shut Down Line 5. She is motivated to help stand against all such threats to traditional lifeways and the well-being of every community in the Great Lakes water basin and beyond.

Shalynn (Shay) Brooks
Shay joins Clean Water Action as the SouthCoast Energy Efficiency Outreach Specialist. As a Fall River native, she is excited to help expand access to energy efficiency in a place she will always call home as well as in Taunton, Westport, New Bedford, and Attleboro.
Ahmad Almakky
Ahmad is originally from Pakistan and has worked on a variety of wildlife conservation, clean energy, and community development projects. As a specialist in community-based approaches, his work focuses on the multifaceted and complex impacts of environmental projects on marginalized and underrepresented groups. Ahmad holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from Duke University.
Marisa Perales

Marisa Perales is a partner in a small environmental law firm that advocates against polluters and in favor of the public's interest throughout Texas. The firm addresses all sorts of environmental issues that arise in Texas, including municipal, hazardous, and radioactive waste storage and disposal; water quality and air pollution; endangered species protection; and incompatible land uses. Ms. Perales also serves as board president of Texas Campaign for the Environment Fund. Believing that environmental advocacy must lead with equity and justice, Ms. Perales was a founding member
