As I look back on 2019, there are plenty of times that it would have been easy to get frustrated, throw my hands up, and lose hope. But I didn't -- and Clean Water members and supporters had a lot to do with that.

"Closed Means Closed:" the 311 system in Baltimore City and pollution
On Thursday October 22 at 2:00 pm, I attended the Baltimore City Council committee’s hearing on Bill 19-0163R, an informational hearing 311, the language behind closure of a service request, and improvement of the 311 system. The hearing began with Councilman Pinkett showing three examples of illegal dumping where the service request for them had been closed, and the site inspected, yet the garbage dumped was still present. The Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision unleashed a flood. It opened the door to unlimited dark money into our politics. We’ve been dealing with the impacts ever since.
But there is hope for change.
800 cities and towns, and 20 states are calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. That represents 141 million Americans, 46% of the U.S. population. Popular support is overwhleming -- the debate over the idea of overturning Citizens United should be over.
