Protecting Lake Linganore: Frederick City's drinking water
Every summer in Frederick County, Maryland, news hits about algae blooms, sediment, and other pollution in Lake Linganore. Source of nearly half of the drinking water in Frederick City and the central part of the County and an important center for recreation for the Linganore community, Linganore Creek and its 83-square-mile watershed are vital for Frederick County. But historic agricultural runoff, continued construction, and the threat of major development just upstream from the lake all put this drinking water source at risk. I am a canvassing intern for the summer here at Clean Water Action in Rhode Island. In addition to knocking on doors, I got the opportunity to shadow State Director Johnathan Berard for one day to learn how the organization operates on the policy and lobbying side. It was incredibly informative and fun!
