2017 Legislative Preview
In Maryland, the General Assembly meets every year for ninety days, from January to April. During this time, the State’s legislators introduce legislation on a variety of issues and must work together to pass a budget for the year ahead. With the 2017 Maryland General Assembly Session quickly approaching, Clean Water Action is putting together an ambitious plan to advocate for important legislation that will protect and preserve the environment. There’s no getting around it: this world can be a scary place, and as parents and caregivers, we do whatever we can to shield our children from harm. From proper sleeping positions in infancy to talking about safe sex, we are always striving to control for and eliminate threats to our kids’ health and well-being.
Some threats are harder to identify, though, and this is the problem that parents and caregivers face as we attempt to navigate a sea of toxic consumer products and choose which ones are safest for our kids.

Most of us don't think much about the impact of our purchases on the marketplace but when we make conscious choices to purchase furniture without toxic chemical flame retardants, cookware without harmful perflourinated chemicals or children's products without bisphenol A, we're sending a message to retailers that we want safe products and they pay attention. Our Mind the Store campaign has made a huge impact with the world's largest retailers and succeeded in getting Walmart, Target, CVS, Home Depot and Lowe's to work with their suppliers and shift away from some of the most harmful chemicals
