Trenton, NJ-Clean Water Action responded with support to Governor Murphy's announcement today that Christie’s Executive Order 2 (EO 2), which undermined critical environmental and public health safeguards, is now relegated to the dust bin of history.

"Governor Murphy rightly relegated Christie’s EO2 to the dust bin of history because it undermined critical environmental and public health safeguards. Today’s announcement is part of a much needed larger effort including last week’s actions against major corporate polluters, repealing Christie's clean water rollbacks, and not just saying yes to clean energy but also no to dirty power. New Jersey needs stronger protections than federal law given our pollution legacy and population density. Stronger stands like this make more states bolder to act together as the Trump Administration continues to go in reverse. That's why today's action is so important," stated Clean Water Action State Director Amy Goldsmith.

"Murphy’s new executive order reflects a regulatory approach that is both inclusive of people who are most greatly affected in the rule making process, as well as strives to be more protective of the health and well-being of New Jersey residents, workers and the environment. It is clear that states need to do better and be more protective especially when the federal administration has gone the wrong way in most instances."

"We applaud the NJDEP’s recent announcement to regulate PFAS in drinking water and NJ Attorney General’s recent enforcement and cleanup action against polluters like DuPont. And we look forward to moving from philosophy to Executive Order to implementation on other significant matters. Clean Water Action is eager to see the Governor make concrete progress when it comes to addressing climate change and getting to 100% renewable by 2050."
