Washington DC -- Today the Senate confirmed Deb Haaland as Secretary of the interior, making her the first Native American cabinet member in history. This historic confirmation follows the confirmation of Michael Regan as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency last week.
Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following statement:
“Congratulations to Secretary Haaland. We are excited for her to get to work advancing policy that will prioritize our lands and waters while combating the climate crisis. After four years of policies that put polluters and special interests first, Secretary Haaland will bring about a new day at the Department of the Interior. She’ll ensure the voices of tribes and local communities are heard in conversations about our public lands -- not just those of oil and gas CEOs.
We’re also thrilled that the Senate confirmed Michael Regan to lead EPA. Now that President Biden’s team is nearly in place, we’re eager for the Administration to continue to take bold action to tackle the climate crisis, protect our water, and put our communities first. We look forward to working with the Biden administration while holding them accountable to their commitments."
