“Over the weekend, Enbridge Energy once again violated the due care clause of their easement to operate Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac by reopening the pipeline after significant damage was sustained, without knowing the cause or extent of the damage. We applaud Attorney General Nessel’s strong action in seeking a preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order to shut down this dangerous pipeline immediately until the State of Michigan has conducted a full review of the information provided about damage to Line 5 with the assistance of independent experts.
"Attorney General Nessel has lived up to the oath she took to protect the public trust waters and bottomlands of the Great Lakes, and we thank her for her leadership. Governor Whitmer has likewise taken an oath to protect our Great Lakes. We hope she will uphold that oath and join the Attorney Generals legal actions, as well as use her authority as Governor to revoke Enbridge’s easement. The people of this state refuse to be fooled by Enbridge yet another time. Enough is enough – our Great Lakes remain at risk and Governor Whitmer must act now to protect them.”
