Washington, DC— In response to the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee markup of the Fiscal Year 2025 Interior-Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, Clean Water Action released the following statement from Sean Jackson, National Water Campaigns Coordinator for Clean Water Action:
“This week's markup for the FY25 interior/environment appropriations bill would slash funding for vital programs in water protection. Extremist Republican members of the House of Representatives have proposed poison pill riders that would cut the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) budget by 20 percent and significantly reduce allocations for the State Revolving Funds’ (SRFs).
This would devastate our ability to protect clean drinking water and set back much of the progress accomplished by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These cuts demonstrate an incredible lack of foresight. We cannot accept sacrificing the future of our water systems, environment, or public health for political gains.”
