Every election cycle, Clean Water Action endorses deserving candidates who will champion clean water, clean air, and climate justice. Presenting: our first round of endorsements, including some competitive state legislative primaries!
United States Senate:
Ed Markey (incumbent)
For decades, Ed Markey has been one of the nation's strongest environmental champions. He continues to lead efforts to hold fossil fuel companies accountable, lower energy costs through clean energy investments, strengthen climate resilience, protect public lands and waters, and safeguard communities from the growing impacts of climate change.
United States House of Representatives:
Bill Keating (incumbent)
Rep. William Keating is the current representative for Massachusetts’ 9th Congressional District and a longtime champion of environmental conservation, coastal restoration, clean energy, and water quality. He has focused on addressing Cape Cod’s nitrogen pollution and wastewater challenges while supporting investments in clean water infrastructure, coastal wetlands, and marine habitat. Keating also supports renewable energy and coastal resilience, priorities that are particularly important in a district defined by its coastal communities, estuaries, and vulnerable water resources.
Tram Nguyen
As Chair of the MA. State House Committee on Climate Action and Sustainability, Tram Nguyen has been focused on advancing climate policies that also create good-paying jobs and strengthen Massachusetts’ economy. A childhood political refugee, Nguyen became the first in her family to graduate from college before becoming a legal services attorney. She brings the same commitment to opportunity and justice to public service, championing investments in Clean Energy, green jobs, and climate resilience. She is running for Congress to ensure the American Dream remains within reach for everyone.

1st Suffolk District: Latoya Gayle
Latoya Gayle is focused on making clean energy affordable and accessible for every family. She supports expanding renewable energy, stopping unnecessary gas pipeline expansion, increasing access to energy efficiency programs, growing offshore wind, and protecting clean air and clean water in communities across the district.
2nd Middlesex District: Representative Christine Barber
As House Chair of the Joint Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Representative Christine Barber has been a top legislative champion on indoor air quality. She has led efforts to invest in climate resilience, flood control, parks, public lands, and clean water infrastructure. She has also been a strong advocate for cleaner, more reliable public transportation.
5th Middlesex District: Carey McDonald
Carey McDonald has made climate action and environmental protection central to their campaign. They support expanding clean energy, restricting PFAS chemicals, replacing lead service lines to protect drinking water, investing in climate resilience, and lowering energy costs through renewable energy.

2nd Bristol District: Representative Jim Hawkins (incumbent)
Representative Jim Hawkins has worked alongside firefighters and environmental advocates to pass landmark legislation reducing toxic PFAS chemicals in firefighter protective equipment, helping protect first responders while advancing public health.
3rd Bristol District: Representative Lisa Field (incumbent)
Lisa Field has worked with community advocates to advance a cleaner, more equitable future. She has supported efforts to protect clean air, oppose polluting industries, and strengthen protections against PFAS exposure for firefighters.
16th Essex District: Celina Reyes
With over 20 years of public service in the City of Lawrence, Celine Reyes has a deep understanding of the challenges we face in Lawrence, Methuen, and along the Merrimack River. She is committed to advancing environmental justice and ensuring communities have the resources they need to prepare for extreme heat, flooding, and other climate impacts.
12th Hampden District: Angelo Puppolo Jr. (incumbent)
Representative Angelo Puppolo Jr. is the longest-serving House member in his region and Dean of the delegation. He has been a strong advocate for public health and environmental protections, including sponsoring legislation to reduce toxic chemicals in firefighter personal protective equipment and protect first responders from harmful exposures.
1st Middlesex District: Representative Margaret Scarsdale (incumbent)
Representative Margaret Scarsdale has been a proven leader on climate and conservation, championing legislation to protect open space, preserve pollinator habitat, conserve energy, and safeguard Massachusetts' natural resources for future generations.
16th Middlesex District: Lorena Betts
Lorena Betts is committed to building affordable, sustainable communities by expanding weatherization and community solar, cleaning up local waterways including the Merrimack River and Freeman Lake, and advancing clean energy solutions that lower pollution and utility costs for working families.
17th Middlesex District: John Drinkwater
John Drinkwater brings a strong background in labor and environmental advocacy to his campaign for State Representative. As Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for the AFL-CIO, he has advocated for policies including the Clean Energy Workforce Standards and Accountability Act. As a Lowell City Councilor, he has also signed municipal support letters calling for stronger protections against environmental pollution and public health risks in local communities.
25th Middlesex District: Marjorie Decker (incumbent)
Representative Marjorie Decker has made climate and environmental protection a top priority during her 12 years in the House. As Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Health, she has successfully secured environmental provisions in each climate package passed during her tenure. In the 2024 climate omnibus, she secured language establishing workforce standards for clean energy procurement, helping advance a just transition to a clean energy economy.
32nd Middlesex District: Leila Migliorelli
Leila Migliorelli is committed to building more sustainable communities and advancing policies that will strengthen Melrose, Wakefield, Malden and the surrounding region through responsible environmental leadership.
6th Norfolk District: Lisa Lopez
Lisa Lopez has championed efforts to make clean energy more affordable and accessible to residents, including supporting Canton's municipal energy aggregation program, Canton Electrical Choice, which delivers cleaner and more affordable electricity to local families. She has also worked to preserve and revitalize important community assets, including the former Plymouth Rubber site, which became the Paul Revere Heritage Site, and has pledged to advance policies on Beacon Hill that take Massachusetts' climate obligations seriously.
