When we pay our utility bill, a small portion helps Mass Save achieve statewide climate goals by supporting energy efficiency upgrades for homes and businesses, enhancing grid reliability, and ensuring that energy savings reach all communities, not just the wealthiest. These efforts are lowering energy bills statewide and saving ratepayers money in the long run.
And this is just the beginning!
The 2028-2030 Mass Save Three-Year Plan is in the works. Who decides what the next round of incentives, rebates, and programs will look like? You! Here’s how it works:
The Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Advisory Council (EEAC) was created in 2010 to increase the state's energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Utilities develop three-year energy efficiency and decarbonization plans, overseen by the EEAC, which serve as the blueprint for the Mass Save program.
Mass Save offers services and financial incentives designed to help Massachusetts residents lower their energy bills by reducing the amount of energy their home or business consumes. The Three-Year plans are comprehensive outlines of the incentives and benefits that Mass Save will provide for homes and businesses. This is where your rebates on utility bills are coming from!
Here are the goals of the current 2025-2027 Plan:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1 million tons of CO2e
- Deliver 8.3 million MWh and 1.1 billion therms in energy savings to reduce demand on the grid and drive down costs for everyone
- Return a net value of $13.7 billion to MA residents in direct savings, rebates, and broader social benefits
- Invest $1.9 billion in equity-related efforts to ensure everyone can access these benefits, not just the wealthy and connected.
