Canvassing is the heart of Clean Water Action. Over a winter of relentless breaking bad news and AI-generated slop, the connections we made with our members at your front doors mattered more than ever. To everyone who stopped to chat with us about your local neighborhoods and the environmental issues that matter to you, even if only for five minutes, thank you! You added to the shared voice of the movement for climate justice. The impact of destructive climate policy is collective —our response must be as well.

Here are 3 things that kept our team going this winter:

Warmth

A woman invited me in for a cup of green tea. (With two bags!). She told me about her work distributing food to homeless people and showed me her gnome and frog-themed home decor. I showed her my gnome tattoo, which she loved. It was just a wholesome moment and warmed me up.

Relationship Building

This winter was the first time that I canvassed people who I spoke to a year ago. I’m coming back to the same houses, greeting people who remember me, and because we started the conversation in 2025, going deeper with them on the issues.

Generosity

On a freezing cold day, I met a wonderful couple who invited me in to warm up while they renewed their membership. As they were completing their donation, the woman said, ‘You’re just in time! I'm pulling brownies out of the oven right now! You should have some!’ Thanks for hot brownies on a cold day!

Polluters have billionaire supporters. Our movement has warmth, relationships, and generosity. These person-to-person moments build and sustain movements for change. Our field canvassers bring the language of climate legislation to your door and carry neighbors' voices back to the halls of the State House, and this is how we win campaigns for a healthier, more just future for everyone.

Thank you for your kindness this winter which fueled our team through snow and bitter cold, and thank you for joining and sustaining our movement for climate justice! If we missed you this winter, you can still contact your legislators!
