We're Celebrating Plastic Free July - REGISTER TODAY for our ReThink Disposable Webinar to learn more about our work!
Each year we collaborate with our reuse partners to highlight our work reducing single use plastic foodware from our waste streams. Why? Well, we know that 50% of all plastic ever produced has been manufactured since 2000. We also know that plastic contains forever chemicals that are known to cause health problems in humans. We have even seen the study that shows we may have up to a spoon’s worth of microplastic materials in our brain. All of this feels overwhelming sometimes, so we at Clean Water Fund’s ReThink Disposable program would like to take a step back this July and reflect on the year and our accomplishments.
We have added over 100 new restaurants, schools, and venues to the list of those that have converted to reusable foodware. We have partnered with National Parks and are in the process of helping Mammoth Cave, Petrified National Forest, and Jamaica Bay reach their zero waste goals. We are diverting over 28 million pieces of single use foodware from the waste stream, which is over 250,000 pounds of plastic that is no longer created annually. And we do this with funding from our members, states and municipalities, and foundations. In other words – we do this work together!
We hope you can join us for a webinar to discuss the impact plastic reduction, and the reuse economy, is making in our communities. We will be joined by some of our collaborators for a robust roundtable discussion on the future of the movement. We hope to see you there! REGISTER HERE!
