Clean Water Advocates Applaud Immediate Statewide Moratorium on Water Shutoffs to Protect Californians
As COVID-19 Shows There is No Public Health Without Clean Water for All, Governor Newsom Takes Important Steps to Protect Public Health and Combat the Spread of Disease Group Supports Further Action to Meet Urgent Drinking Water Needs During COVID-19 Crisis
SACRAMENTO, CA - Clean Water Action, Community Water Center, Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability, NextGen California, and Natural Resources Defense Council released the following statement today in response to the Governor’s Executive Order N-42-20:
“Gov. Newsom’s Executive Order N-42-20 recognizes that access to safe, clean
COVID-19 pandemic threatens water shutoffs, poses bottled water scarcity for vulnerable Californians
“We applaud those utilities who have not only placed a moratorium on shutoffs during the pandemic, but which are turning the water back on for those whose water service was turned off prior to this crisis,” said Jennifer Clary, Water Program Manager at Clean Water Action. “Those who were struggling before this emergency hit need help even more now. We urge the governor to ensure that all residential water providers follow this example.”
