DETROIT- Last week, while Michiganders were enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday, aggregate from a known contaminated site currently being used by Detroit Bulk Storage collapsed into the Detroit River. The site has been contaminated for decades with a variety of dangerous and radioactive chemicals including uranium, PCBs, and PFAS compounds. The collapsed riverbank threatens downriver water intake pipes for the city of Detroit.

Denver Water’s Plan to Get the Lead Out While Protecting Our Watersheds
Denver Water’s Lead Reduction Program Plan is the culmination of a rigorous, 18-month-long stakeholder process that included federal, state, and local agencies, wastewater and drinking water utilities, and environmental and conservation organizations. Clean Water Action staff attended numerous stakeholder meetings and submitted a letter of support for Denver Water’s July 2019 draft plan. We strongly support the revised plan and are pleased that Denver Water incorporated many of our recommendations into its final proposal to EPA.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee previous spoke in support of efforts to decommission Line 5 without a replacement tunnel. Climate change is already impacting our water and health -- we have to address this crisis now by transitioning to a clean energy
