Detroit Bulk Storage Aggregate Spill Shows Need for Polluter Pay Law
DETROIT- Last week, while Michiganders were enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday, aggregate from a known contaminated site currently being used by Detroit Bulk Storage collapsed into the Detroit River. The site has been contaminated for decades with a variety of dangerous and radioactive chemicals including uranium, PCBs, and PFAS compounds. The collapsed riverbank threatens downriver water intake pipes for the city of Detroit.

Clean Water Action: MPCA's Line 3 Denial Shows the Importance of Section 401 of the Clean Water Act
Minneapolis -- Today the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency denied the Clean Water Act Section 401 water quality permit for Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline. The MPCA stated that it needed more information to determine if the 340-mile long pipeline would be detrimental to water quality in the state, as a result of possible oil spills. Section 401 of the Clean Water Act is a critical tool states and tribes use to protect local waters. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed weakening this provision, which would make it harder for Minnesota and other states to safeguard water

Clean Water Action Applauds AG Nessel’s Action To Decommission Line 5 Pipeline
For years, Clean Water Action along with a broad coalition of Michigan residents, business owners, and indigenous leaders have been calling for our state leadership to decommission Enbridge’s dangerous and outdated Line 5 pipeline, which remains an ever-present threat to the Straits of Mackinac, and the waters of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Today, Attorney General Nessel has filed a lawsuit in Ingham County Circuit Court to do just that.
