Testifying for Frederick's Climate Emergency Resolution
As a rising sophomore in college and major in environmental science, the reality of climate change is a huge part of my world. When I learned through my internship at Clean Water Action about Frederick County’s proposed Climate Emergency Resolution, I felt compelled to further educate myself. This year, as our Baltimore office is closed and we're all working from home, our internship program looks a little different! We're working with 11 interns, including high school, college, and graduate students, to expand our research base and work on septic and sewer systems, drinking water protections, Superfund sites, trash incineration, and more. Improperly managed septic systems can release untreated, or partially treated, waste to nearby streams and rivers as well as groundwater. Untreated waste poses a human health risk to others and impairs water quality.

Colorado Test Results Reveal Contaminated Drinking Water
“CDPHE’s water testing results highlight the need for the state to do more to protect our communities from PFAS,” said Jennifer Peters, Water Programs Director at Clean Water Action. “Polluters should not be allowed to dump these chemicals into our water, and I urge the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission to pass a strong narrative water policy to rein in discharges of PFAS into Colorado waters.”

This weekend, almost 150 people joined us for a special screening of " The Story of Plastic." The Story of Plastic takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it, from people in Appalachia and the Gulf Coast facing enormous new petrochemical infrastructure being built to expand plastic production, to people in China and Bangladesh dealing with the US's exports of "recyclable" (but not really) plastics.
