MI Water, MI Future was a series of townhall events discussing pressing issues and topics regarding protecting our michigan watered resources, learning the background and history, where we currently stand, what the future holds, and how you can take action.

Each town hall moderated by Clean Water Action Michigan Legislative and Policy Director Sean McBrearty includes special guest panelists including legislators, experts, and activists along with question and answer sessions from the audience.

More food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in municipal solid waste. Food waste contributes 20% of all materials in landfills; in restaurants, it is estimated that a half-pound of food waste is created for every meal served. One recent study indicates that “the U.S. restaurant sector generates 11 million tons of food waste annually (7 million tons from full-service restaurants and 4 million tons from limited-service restaurants), the full cost of which is more than $25 billion” – most of which enters landfills. Public Trust means that the people of Michigan own our water resources, and the State has a solemn responsibility to protect our water for the use and enjoyment of Michigan residents. This is an important yet often overlooked piece of our bundle of rights in a democratic society.
