“Today, Senator Bernie Sanders has joined Michigan residents, groups, and tribal communities in opposition to Enbridge Energy’s plan to build an oil tunnel through the Straits of Mackinac for the outdated and corroding Line 5 pipeline. Washington Governor Jay Inslee previous spoke in support of efforts to decommission Line 5 without a replacement tunnel. Clean Water Action Applauds AG Nessel’s Action To Decommission Line 5 Pipeline
For years, Clean Water Action along with a broad coalition of Michigan residents, business owners, and indigenous leaders have been calling for our state leadership to decommission Enbridge’s dangerous and outdated Line 5 pipeline, which remains an ever-present threat to the Straits of Mackinac, and the waters of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Today, Attorney General Nessel has filed a lawsuit in Ingham County Circuit Court to do just that.
Together, we achieved our goal and sent a loud message to restore Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy Funds!
In 2017, Connecticut’s General Assembly made an outrageous and short-sighted decision to raid $145 million dollars of energy efficiency and clean energy funds and sweep them into the state’s general fund to help plug a fiscal crisis.
