Marta Young
Marta was raised in the Washington DC area but has lived in a variety of places, now calling the Jersey Shore home. After college, she traveled the country as a math and science teacher, including beautiful places such as the Navajo Reservation in Arizona and Puerto Rico.
Later, she became a project manager for a large engineering firm as an environmental geologist, investigating and remediating contaminated sites. These experiences bring a wealth of knowledge and passion as the NJ Zero Waste Specialist. From her work with ReThink Disposable, she was named 2024 Honorable Mention Activist of
Ahmad Almakky
Ahmad is originally from Pakistan and has worked on a variety of wildlife conservation, clean energy, and community development projects. As a specialist in community-based approaches, his work focuses on the multifaceted and complex impacts of environmental projects on marginalized and underrepresented groups. Ahmad holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from Duke University.
Mac Glackin
Originally from the East Coast, Mac finished an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and Politics at the University of San Francisco. Mac's academic career focused on a balance between the sciences and the humanities. Pairing studies of ecology, GIS mapping, and environmental data analysis with community garden outreach, Environmental Justice, and decolonial lenses on human rights and stewardship. A Bay Area resident, Mac applies these lessons to help in Clean Water Action's mission in Oakland, CA.
Becky Smith
Becky has worked with Clean Water Action since 2001. Recent projects include assembling a multi-sector network in Massachusetts to support innovative and alternative approaches to integrated water and energy resource management to protect both water and human ecosystems. Her work at the local, state, and federal level includes giving presentations on sustainable options for next generations of infrastructure; support for initiatives such as the Clean Water Restoration Act; and pursuing Clean Water Act protections for waters here in Massachusetts.
