On Monday, Maryland ended its 90-day legislative session. With uncertainty out of Washington, this was a difficult year in Annapolis. Legislators grappled with a deficit that became worse as the state faced questions about federal grants and jobs. Maryland General Assembly Eliminates Trash Incineration from the State Renewable Portfolio Standard
Long demanded by community leaders on the frontlines of fighting incinerators in Maryland, this policy will end state subsidies and greenwashing for polluting trash incinerators and redirect those investments toward renewable energy. Maryland has become the second state in the country, behind only California, to delete trash incineration from its Renewable Portfolio Standard.

Testimony against HB62/SB253: environmental protections from chemical warfare disposal activities
Today, the House Environment and Transportation Committee and the Senate Education, energy, and the Environment Committee both held hearings on HB62 / SB253 , legislation that would exempt "research facilities" for the incineration of chemical warfare materials - designated as such by the U.S. Department of Defense - from a number of environmental protections which would otherwise comply. This moment, with so much turmoil at the federal level, is not an appropriate one to withdraw Maryland environmental protections in favor of federal discretion. Our testimony is below!
