EPA's Proposed Toxic Water Rule for Power Plants
EPA’s new proposal would require more stringent Clean Water Act wastewater treatment standards for coal-fired power plants, which are known as Effluent Limitation Guidelines. If finalized, these standards would eliminate at least 584 million pounds of toxic pollutants every year, while providing $1.4 billion in annual benefits to society.

Carolyn joined Clean Water Action in 2023 as a Development Associate. Growing up on Florida's Gulf Coast, Carolyn's life always revolved around water. On weekends you would find her swimming in Florida's crystal clear springs, volunteering at the local aquarium, or scuba diving off the coast. After earning her bachelor's degree in history from Columbia University, she moved to Virginia. As a Development Associate for Clean Water Action, she is able to enjoy her other passion, which is connecting people to causes they care about most.
