Community Leaders Call on Port Authority to Block Amazon Air Cargo Hub at Newark Airport
NEWARK, NJ - At a press conference today, Amazon workers, environmental advocates, labor groups, and small business owners came together to push back on plans for a new Amazon air cargo mega-hub at the Newark International Airport.
The project, first reported in August, would give Amazon a twenty-year lease through the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to build two 250,000 sq. ft. air cargo facilities next to the airport, letting the company significantly expand its footprint in the tri-state region. California Bans PFAS in Paper-Based Food Packaging
“The insidious thing about PFAS is that we are not only exposed by using products that contain them, but we are re-exposed when these chemicals get into our water, air, soil, and crops,” said Andria Ventura, legislative and policy director at Clean Water Action. “Since food packaging is a major source of litter in water and can contaminate compost, our precious water resources and food are at risk. That’s why AB 1200 is so important.”

Victory! Pittsburgh Enacts Single-Use Bag Ban
Victory! Just in time for Earth Day, Pittsburgh City Council unanimously passed a ban on wasteful single-use plastic bags. The ordinance is expected to reduce distribution of nearly 110 million plastic bags annually and decrease plastic litter. Clean Water Action is grateful to have played a part in making this happen.
