Detroit Bulk Storage Aggregate Spill Shows Need for Polluter Pay Law
DETROIT- Last week, while Michiganders were enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday, aggregate from a known contaminated site currently being used by Detroit Bulk Storage collapsed into the Detroit River. The site has been contaminated for decades with a variety of dangerous and radioactive chemicals including uranium, PCBs, and PFAS compounds. The collapsed riverbank threatens downriver water intake pipes for the city of Detroit. Maryanne joined Clean Water Action in June of 2019 as a Field Canvasser in the Ann Arbor office. Before beginning her work in her current role as Canvass Director, she worked as a Field Manager and Senior Field Manager for the Field Canvass office in Ann Arbor. She received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in May of 2021, where her studies concentrated on feminist and environmental economics.
