Session finally ends in Minnesota with wins for Clean Water!
The Minnesota legislative special session is concluded - and we're happy to announce several victories!
First and foremost: Minnesota will now join a number of other states in banning PFAS in food packaging starting in 2024! PFAS are “forever chemicals” that do not break down in the environment and carry with them health risks like cancer and decreased immune response when people are exposed. Clean Water Action: MPCA's Line 3 Denial Shows the Importance of Section 401 of the Clean Water Act
Minneapolis -- Today the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency denied the Clean Water Act Section 401 water quality permit for Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline. The MPCA stated that it needed more information to determine if the 340-mile long pipeline would be detrimental to water quality in the state, as a result of possible oil spills. Section 401 of the Clean Water Act is a critical tool states and tribes use to protect local waters. Washington, D.C. -- The Environmental Protection Agency, today, sent a letter to California claiming California is not living up to its responsibilities under the Clean Water Act, citing homelessness as one of the main reasons.
