REI--Will you put our health and planet first?
Recognizing this alarming public health and environmental issue, Clean Water Action and allies at the Mind the Store campaign have been urging REI and other retailers to ban PFAS in outdoor apparel. To date, there have been more than 110,000 petition signatures and emails from REI customers, letters from more than 100 local, state, and national organizations calling on the company to lead the outdoor apparel industry away from the entire class of PFAS.

BOSTON--Silent Spring Institute published a peer-reviewed article today that details how widespread per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are in children’s products, including clothes, bedding, and furnishings. As a woman, environmentalist, and intern at Clean Water Action, waking up in Massachusetts on November 7 th felt pretty good. All 17 candidates that Clean Water endorsed in Massachusetts won their races, meaning that strong advocates for the environment will be taking office all around the state. No, Not Again: Major retailers still have a long way to go for safe stores
Mind the Store is a national campaign that works to get major retailers to get toxic chemicals off of their store shelves. Major retailers across the United States sell thousands of products containing toxic chemicals. Every year, Mind the Store releases a report card grading some of these retailers towards their progress on getting toxic chemicals off of store shelves. The companies are scored in different areas such as accountability, policy and disclosure.
Why we must face climate change with a positive attitude
The world won’t end if humans keep up with business as usual, but we will face the most catastrophic loss of human and animal life the world has ever seen. We can’t downplay these findings. The real question is how do we talk about this in a way that communicates meaning and mobilization, instead of fear?
