We are halfway through the Minnesota 2018 legislative session and it’s been made clear that some of our lawmakers are not willing to put our environment and public health first. They are placing policies that ignore science and weaken protections for our land, air, and water before people.

The youth are our future, which is why Clean Water Action decided to start a Youth Advisory Board (YAB). We’ve had a great time meeting with folks of different ages and backgrounds to work on and discuss many of the issues Clean Water works to address on a daily basis.

My whole life, I’ve lived near the water. I grew up in one of Long Island’s beach towns on the North Shore and I spent my childhood vacations at my grandmother’s log cabin on one of Minnesota’s ten thousand lakes. Even in my teenage years, I returned summer after summer to a camp on Vermont’s Lake Champlain.
2018 Legislative Wrap Up
Another legislative session has come and gone. We saw some wins and some losses, but no matter the outcome we continue to work on issues that impact water quality in Maryland.
Septic Stewardship Plans (HB1765): This legislation incentivizes local jurisdictions to create Septic Stewardship Plans, which require education, pumpouts, and record keeping, based on septic system best practices. This bill passed unanimously by both the House and Senate and it now awaits Governor Hogan's siganture.
