The fight for a foam-free Baltimore

This week, a bill to ban styrofoam food packages was approved by Baltimore City's Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Thanks to incredible organizing by the student-led group Baltimore Beyond Plastic, who brought hundreds of elementary, middle, and high school students to rally and testify in support of the bill, it received unanimous committee support. Below are the comments we submitted on behalf of this bill. Kudos to the kids who made it possible!

ReThink Disposable: “Unpackaging Alameda” Demonstration Project Launches!

Our $400,000 Ocean Protection Council-funded project has officially launched on the island of Alameda in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Clean Water Fund attended the 33 rd Annual Alameda Art and Wine Faire on July 29, 2017 to unveil a groundbreaking project called “ReThink Disposable: Unpackaging Alameda, ” to create a model “unpackaged” community by engaging 100 food businesses on the island to become ReThink Disposable certified.

Businesses receive free assistance and financial support to implement best practices for cost saving and waste reduction to prevent disposable and litter prone

Starbucks and Our Plastic Pollution Problem

The globe is covered in plastic waste. The "to-go" coffee culture is a big part of this problem. Take Starbucks, for example. Starbucks uses more than 8,000 paper cups a minute, which adds up to more than four billion a year.
