The Environmental Risks and Oversight of Enhanced Oil Recovery in the United States
Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is the most common oil recovery practice in the U.S., accounting for an estimated 60% of domestic crude oil production. EOR involves the injection of fluids underground to increase the flow of oil and gas to the surface. Despite its prevalence, EOR is largely unknown to the public, poses threats to groundwater, and lacks adequate oversight from state and federal regulators.

Jesus was born in Bakersfield, CA and has lived in Lamont most of his life. He has been involved in various civic organizations. In 2012, he began his community organizing work in partnership with the Dolores Huerta Foundation. There he was trained in strategic skill development in community organizing. After his training, he was a lead community organizer in Kern County, addressing youth issues that included: teen pregnancy prevention and advocacy to reverse juvenile school suspensions.
