Aveda - Partnering to Protect Clean Water
I love the work we do at Clean Water Action- protecting waters and put drinking water first, protecting health by reducing exposure to toxic chemicals and protecting our environment by promoting renewable energy. Aligning with corporate partners like Aveda, who share our mission and do amazing work worldwide to protect water and produce sustainable products derived from plants makes our work even better!
3 Things I Learned Just by Showing Up
On March 31st this year, Clean Water Action and the Coalition for a Safe and Healthy CT, an advocacy group that aims to protect our children from toxic chemicals, held a press event to voice concerns over the use of recycled tire rubber as a ground cover in playgrounds and urge passing of the bill to ban its use. I saw firsthand the world in which the Coalition works and learned a few things about the legislative process, the science, and the impact of simply showing up to relay my concern. Here are three things I realized:

Most of us don't think much about the impact of our purchases on the marketplace but when we make conscious choices to purchase furniture without toxic chemical flame retardants, cookware without harmful perflourinated chemicals or children's products without bisphenol A, we're sending a message to retailers that we want safe products and they pay attention. Our Mind the Store campaign has made a huge impact with the world's largest retailers and succeeded in getting Walmart, Target, CVS, Home Depot and Lowe's to work with their suppliers and shift away from some of the most harmful chemicals
