Working With Students to Protect Our Water
One of the best things about working for Clean Water Action is the opportunity to meet and work with so many wonderful people on a variety of issues that protect our water and reduce pollution. A highlight this year was working with students and teachers at the Connecticut River Academy to design and build a rain garden that will reduce stormwater runoff into the Connecticut River.
Thanks to Clean Water Action and the Conservation Law Foundation, a citizen suit against an autobody shop in East Hartford for pollution to the Hockanum River resulted in funding for a mitigation project in the area

It’s unfortunate that it took a tragic spill of nearly 40,000 gallons of firefighting foam into the Farmington River for PFAS contamination to finally get some attention in Connecticut. And we’re finally getting some action -- U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal is leading efforts in Washington to assure that firefighting foam containing PFAS chemicals is no longer required by the Department of Defense (DOD). We thank the Senator for his efforts and are proud to join with him to urge strong federal action.

In the streets and in our Senator’s office, we will not be silent
I never thought being packed in a massive sea of people for hours on end would be so inspiring! The Women's March in New York City, with about 70,000 planned participants, had an estimated 300,000 plus men, women, and children of all ages, races, and cultures pouring over the streets heading for Trump Tower. The crowd was so large that the march had to be re-routed and many additional streets shut down for hours. It was historic, moving and, important. People from all over the world are fired up – and I am too!

PFAS Chemicals – Protecting Our Drinking Water And Our Health
PFAS are a class of human-made chemicals that very long-lived, which means that they remain in the environment and in humans and wildlife for a very long time. Clean Water is taking on pollution from these "Forever Chemicals" through education, research, working with impacted communities, advocating for legislation and regulation at the state and national level, supporting Safe Drinking Water Act monitoring, holding polluters accountable, and more.
