All Hands on Deck: Help Us Pass Warehouse Legislation in NJ!
With the passing of the recent elections and lame duck session in full swing, it is critical that we continue to pressure NJ’s current elected leaders to address the growing concern of warehouse development. The election may be over, but warehouse development unfortunately is not. Between 2021 and 2024, 100+ warehouses totaling 26.5 million square feet were planned in NJ, according to the State Planning Commission. In just 14 counties alone, in which a majority make up the Delaware watershed, nearly 150 warehouses — totaling 88 million square feet (about the area of Philadelphia Airport) — are

Kids Help Monitor Newark's Dirty Diesel Near Their School
In December member groups of the Coalition for Healthy Ports (CHPs, which NJEF chairs) and dozens of environmentalists, community activists, port drivers, and students conducted a truck count at various locations in the East and South Wards of Newark where port trucks first hit the local streets. The Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) did a great job organizing truck counting in front of the Hawkins Street School and other neighborhood locations in Newark. Additional truck counting was conducted in the South Ward by the graduates of NJEF's Newark-based Urban Environmental Institute.
