Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a proposed rule rolling back critical wastewater pollution standards for coal-fired power plants.

“Let’s be clear: this is a giveaway to the coal industry that will allow more toxic pollution into our waterways. For too long, the coal industry has not been held accountable for its dangerous wastewater pollution, and now EPA is letting them off the hook once again,” said Julie MacNamara, National Water Projects Coordinator with Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund, “EPA is proposing to let coal-fired power plants avoid cleaning up their harmful wastewater pollution at the expense of our drinking water, our health, and our communities. We urge EPA to withdraw this unnecessary proposal.”
