Coal Free Waters- With a coalition of other groups, we are urging the Maryland Department of the Environment to require Maryland coal plants to minimize their toxic discharge. Explosive Crude Oil Trains - On October 16, the Baltimore City Council introduced landmark legislation to prevent crude oil train disasters throughout Maryland, using Baltimore City's zoning code to prevent new crude oil train terminal construction that could provide a magnet for dangerous North Dakota crude. Save our Forests - Maryland is losing forests daily, but the current Forest Conservation Act only requires that developers replace a quarter acre for every acre cut down. We have joined a coalition of groups to change the law and stop this deforestation trend.
Baltimore City Lead Testing - We are wrapping up a study of over 200 homes in Baltimore City and County to evaluate lead contamination in drinking water, alongside our work in the Lead Service Line Replacement Collaborative. Stay tuned for the results of this study and more information on safe drinking water.
Protecting the Monocacy - The Monocacy River in Frederick and Carroll Counties is one of the most polluted waterways in Maryland, and provides almost a third of Frederick City's drinking water. We've been standing with local advocates to speak out in favor of greater protections for and awareness of the river's challenges in the Monocacy Plan - read about the most recent hearing here!
