By Amy Goldsmith, NJEF Director (New Jersey Environmental Federation is Clean Water Action's New Jersey chapter) A little over a week ago, New Jersey was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy. Families left without heat, electricity, homes, any of their belongings, and clean drinking water. The "Tide Truck" arrived a few days ago to help people wash their clothes when there was no power or laundromats to be found. When the flood waters recede, the Jersey Shore is likely to be left with briny reminders of Hurricane Sandy in its soil and drinking water wells. As sea levels rise and storm surges occur more often and with more intensity, we must remember without fresh clean affordable drinking water for our families, natural ecology, tourism, food and other industries can not survive. It is therefore imperative that you GET OUT TO VOTE. Do not take clean water for granted. We have been reminded in New Jersey just how precious it is. If you want Clean Water for today and the future, VOTE OBAMA. New Jersey Voters make yourself heard. First go to their regular polling place (if there is no power, you will fill out paper ballots).
