PROVIDENCE, RI: Clean Water Action enters the 2025 legislative session with a seasoned State House insider at the helm, Emily Howe. Emily has been serving as Clean Water’s Interim State Director since June 2024 and was most recently the Executive Director of the Rhode Island Democratic Party.

“I am honored to be the next Rhode Island State Director of Clean Water Action. I’m excited to get to work this session on passing a Rhode Island bottle bill, tackling microplastic pollution, and expanding our ReThink Disposable campaign. The next generation deserves a strong plan to fight plastic pollution,” said Emily Howe. She added, “As a parent, I am teaching my children to be good stewards of our environment, and I am even more motivated than ever to fight for a livable climate future for them and their peers. I am looking forward to working with the incredible legislators who keep our small but mighty state at the forefront of positive environmental change. I can’t wait to get to work.”

Emily was born and raised in Rhode Island, and lives in Warwick with her husband and 3 young kids. She got her start in environmental advocacy with Clean Water Action as a community organizer in 2007, and she brings a wealth of Rhode Island political and campaigns experience to the team.
