Washington, D.C. -- Today, during his address to the American Farm Bureau Federation convention, President Trump highlighted EPA’s rollbacks of water protections, which would strip Clean Water Act protections from more than half the nation’s remaining wetlands and millions of miles of streams that feed drinking water sources throughout the country.
Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, responded:
“Our water is increasingly stressed by climate change, development, oil and gas production, and failing infrastructure -- we need to do more, not less to protect clean water. The President shouldn’t be boasting about his schemes to dismantle the Clean Water Act. This dangerous proposed rule puts the priorities of corporate special interests before the needs of our families and communities.
The public overwhelmingly rejected this rule when it was proposed and a recent draft report from EPA’s Science Advisory Board called out the agency for ignoring established science when drafting the rule. Despite this, the Trump administration is persisting in finalizing this reckless giveaway to polluters.
We’ll do everything we can to stop the President’s attacks on the Clean Water Act and ensure that the Dirty Water Agenda fails.”
